Amir Unsworth back training at Hook & Jab Gym.

26 year old Soldier Amir Unsworth fought for Hook & Jab gym as a youngster before moving to Lincolnshire at the age of 21, since then he has represented the Army and Combined Services. He was given special dispensation by the Army to turn pro after a distinguished amateur career.

He is back training with Hook & Jab as his base.

He began his professional career by claiming a points victory against Mansfield-based Latvian, Sergei Rozhamens, on a card in Manchester.

The lightweight boxer won every round of the six-round contest staged at the GH Carnall Leisure Centre, a display which impressed manager Carl Greaves.

"Amir showed maturity and a lot of people were surprised by his performance on debut" said Greaves.

"He was working the head and body exceptionally and if it wasn't for the other lad standing up really well there could have been a stoppage - the referee was waiting to step in at any time."

The performance will no doubt spur on Unsworth, who is a PTI infrantryman, part of the 1st Cheshire Infantry based at Ballykinla, in Northern Ireland.

He is set to fly to Iraq in November - but not before his second bout, on August 11, in Liverpool.

On turning professional Amir stated  "He didn't turn pro for the money, it was more his style was more suited to the pro game. From my 10th amateur fight onwards as a novice, I was fighting internationals so i soon learned to tuck up and roll inside."
